Health & Social Care will prepare you for a career in one of the wide range of related professions.
The BTEC course has a very strong focus on the health and well-being of individuals within society.
It is designed to stimulate and challenge students. It is assessed through a combination of internal assignments and external exams. These activities are enjoyable, interactive and suitable for all learning styles.
How will it be assessed?
BTEC National Extended Certificate—two-year linear course. Board: EDEXCEL.
The BTEC Extended Certificate is a level 3 qualification equivalent to one A-Level (4 units).
- Unit 1 - Human Lifespan Development (External Exam)
- Unit 2- Working in Health & Social Care (External Exam)
- Unit 5 - Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
- Unit 14 - Physiological Disorders
BTEC National Diploma—two-year linear course. Board: EDEXCEL.
The BTEC Diploma is a level 3 qualification equivalent to two A-Levels (8 units).
- Unit 1 - Human Lifespan Development (External Exam)
- Unit 2- Working in Health & Social Care (External Exam)
- Unit 4 - Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care (Externally assessed)
- Unit 5 - Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
- Unit 7 - Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
- Unit 8 - Promoting Public Health
- Unit 14 - Physiological Disorders
- Unit 19 - Nutritional Health
Both qualifications are graded as a P (Pass), M (Merit) or D (Distinction).
Where will it lead?
A BTEC in Health & Social Care will enable you to enter into employment at various levels in the Health and Social Care sector such as; nursing, midwifery, social work or Early Years Teaching.
The BTEC level 3 qualification is equivalent to A-level standard and will fulfil UCAS entry requirements to study for Health and Social Care related degrees at University.
Enrichment opportunities
Students will have a range of opportunities including participation at conferences, trips and visiting speakers. Work experience opportunities are available in a number of different Health and Social Care settings.
